The Hero

"Manifest the Hero that you want to see in the world." It’s a high aim – one that might just be worth the effort. So, I asked myself, "What does my hero look like?"

Here’s my first pass.

He does what he wants. He doesn't let fear or peer pressure or echos of childhood psychological manipulation stop him. He has conquered all of that and knows who he is and what he wants.

He is not above being wrong. He is boradly competent but is always looking to expand and improve. That means that there will be mistakes. When that happens, he fixes or makes amends and learns something. His expansion and growth are not radical, they are methodical and consistent. Risking what is necessary, but no more. Always being more careful with others than himself.

This is because he is tough. He gets hurt but knows how to heal appropriately and then move on. Not too long, not too short. Mentally steadfast and confident, he has tested his principles intensely. He questions his assumptions and updates them with new information from history, experience, others experience, and stories.

He is bright; always thinking. He brings more to every conversation. He learns something new and then evaluates his path and behaviors for possible positive influence by the new information. Applying knowledge across domains and bringing new light to every endeavor. He is a guy that you want on your team in a crisis.

He is reliable. He takes on responsibility where others abdicate. It seems like he's not afraid, but that is not actually the case. He knows full well what he is doing and is appropriately fearful, but that is met with courage. He follows through and achieves goals. He is there for you. Not when you think you need help, but when you actually need help. He let's others learn on their own, just providing guidance when requested.

He tells the truth. Not the version of truth when people "speak their mind" merely to reveal their ignorance or wield it as a cudgel. He sees deep into things and understands them well before claiming understanding. What he asserts, aligns with reality. Truth is his guide to determine the changes which will make things better.

He takes care of himself in order to be capable of helping others. He wants the best for himself and puts himself into situations where he can learn and grow, developing the very best he has to offer. He strives to fulfill his potential while helping others to do the same for themselves.
